PENDLETON South Carolina—(The Pendletonian)—December 2024—Greetings to all our wonderful residents, new and returning visitors, and those who are considering making Pendleton their home. I am pleased to welcome you to the relaunch of The Pendletonian newspaper, a cherished resource in our town that will continue to connect our community and share the stories that make Pendleton such a special place.
Our town’s slogan—History, Hospitality, Happenings . . . HOME—truly captures the essence of what Pendleton is all about. Pendleton is not just a town but a vibrant, welcoming community with a rich history and bright future. As mayor, I am proud of our progress and the thriving town we continue to build together.
Pendleton’s downtown is the heart of our community, where history meets modern-day charm. With its Village Green, preserved historic architecture, and welcoming atmosphere, our downtown is a destination for residents and visitors alike. You’ll find an array of unique shops, boutiques, and locally owned restaurants offering everything from cozy Southern comfort food to international cuisine. Strolling through downtown, you’ll discover why Pendleton is known for its hospitality and why so many people find themselves returning time and time again.
Pendleton also offers fantastic shopping options along the Highway 76 bypass for those who prefer convenience. Whether you’re looking for specialty goods or everyday essentials, our town provides a well-rounded shopping experience to meet all your needs.
What truly makes Pendleton stand out are the incredible organizations that work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life in our town. The Pendleton Historic Foundation plays a vital role in preserving our town’s rich history, protecting and maintaining our historic landmarks, and keeping our heritage alive for future generations.
Pendleton is also fortunate to have the Pendleton Area Business Association (PABA), a group that supports and promotes our local businesses, helping to keep our economy thriving and our community connected.
The Clemson Little Theatre, featuring the Pendleton Playhouse, is another jewel in our town. This local theater brings our community high-quality entertainment and cultural enrichment through its excellent performances and programs. It’s a true reflection of the creative spirit that thrives here in Pendleton.
It’s not just individual buildings or landmarks that define Pendleton’s rich history—our entire town is on the National Register of Historic Places. Walking through Pendleton is like stepping back in time, as you can still see the architectural beauty of centuries past blending seamlessly with modern life. Our commitment to preserving this history while fostering a lively, forward-thinking community is what makes Pendleton truly unique.
Pendleton offers wonderful recreational opportunities for those who enjoy outdoor activities. Barrett’s Place at Veterans Park is a beloved spot for families. Nestled in the shade, this playground is perfect for children of all ages and those who are still young at heart. With three picnic shelters available to rent, Barrett’s Place is an ideal location for birthday parties, family gatherings, and community events. It’s spaces like this that bring people together, and we are committed to maintaining and enhancing our parks for the enjoyment of all.
Our diverse community of caring residents and businesses is at the heart of everything that makes Pendleton special. Whether you’ve lived here your entire life or recently moved to town, you’ll quickly discover that Pendleton’s sense of community is second to none. We support one another, take pride in our town, and work together to make Pendleton the best it can be. This sense of unity and collaboration is what makes Pendleton not just a place to live but a place to truly call home.
As we continue to grow and evolve, staying informed and connected is important. I encourage everyone to visit our town’s website for up-to-date information on town events, services, and initiatives. We are also active on social media, where you can find announcements and community highlights. By staying connected, we can ensure that our town remains a place where everyone feels informed and included.
In closing, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributes to making Pendleton such a wonderful place to live, work, and visit. From our hardworking town staff to our dedicated volunteers, business owners, and every single resident, together, we are shaping Pendleton’s bright future. I look forward to continuing this journey with you all.
Welcome to Pendleton, where History, Hospitality, Happenings . . . HOME is more than just a slogan—it’s a way of life.
Warm regards,
Mayor Frank Crenshaw
